CCTV drain inspections to find the cause of drainage problems across Auckland
When a drain keeps blocking, or the cause of a drainage problem is not obvious, a CCTV drain inspection lets us look inside the pipe rather than relying on guesswork.
Leak Solutions uses specialist drain cameras to inspect underground drainage lines and identify visible problems such as blockages, root intrusion, displaced joints, damaged pipework and foreign objects.
With a CCTV drain inspection, you can:
See what is happening inside an underground drainage pipe
Identify the location and likely cause of recurring blockages
Check for visible pipe damage or root intrusion
Make better-informed decisions about cleaning or repair work

How a CCTV drain inspection works
A specialist drain camera is fed through an accessible drainage line, allowing the technician to view the inside of the pipe as the camera travels through the system.
This can reveal conditions that cannot be seen from the surface, including accumulated debris, root intrusion, objects caught inside the drain, displaced pipe joints and visible damage to the pipe itself.
The inspection helps us narrow down where the problem is occurring and understand what may be causing it. From there, we can recommend the appropriate next step rather than repeatedly clearing a blockage without knowing why it keeps happening.
When a drain camera inspection can help
CCTV drain inspection is particularly useful when there are signs that a drainage problem may be more than a one-off blockage.
We may recommend an inspection where:
A drain keeps blocking after being cleared
Water is draining slowly without an obvious cause
Tree roots are suspected
There may be damaged or displaced underground pipework
The location of the blockage needs to be narrowed down
We need to inspect the pipe before recommending further drainage work
A camera inspection does not itself clear the drain. If the issue is grease, sludge, debris or another removable blockage, high-pressure drain jetting or another drain clearing method may then be recommended.
From diagnosis through to the right drainage solution
The purpose of CCTV inspection is not simply to produce an image of the drain. It is to give us better information about the cause and location of the problem so the next step can be targeted appropriately.
If the inspection identifies an obstruction that can be removed, we can provide drain unblocking or high-pressure drain jetting. If we find evidence of damaged pipework, root entry or another structural problem, we can explain what further investigation or repair may be required.
A drain camera can help identify visible problems inside accessible drainage pipes, including blockages, accumulated debris, tree root intrusion, displaced joints, foreign objects and damaged sections of pipe.
What can be seen depends on access and the condition of the drain. If the camera cannot pass a blockage, the drain may need to be cleared before the pipe beyond it can be inspected.
It depends on the blockage and how much access is available.
Sometimes the camera can be used first to identify what is obstructing the pipe. In other cases, standing water or a complete blockage may prevent a useful inspection, so the drain may need to be cleared before the full pipe can be viewed.
If the issue can be resolved within our drainage services, yes. For example, we may recommend drain jetting or another method to clear an obstruction.
If the inspection indicates damaged or displaced pipework, we can explain the likely repair requirements and the appropriate next step.
